Rubber Duck Shelf

Stenciling We Love: Day 20

This Rubber Duck Shelf was stenciled by Linda Robinson using stencils from LA Stencilworks, American Home Stencils, and Buckingham Stencils.

Linda says "This project was a lot of fun because my client was trying to make the best of her recent divorce and new condo by personalizing her new space and making it completely hers. She loved the idea of the nylon stocking hanging to dry on the shelf, and the illusion of the transparent nylon was fun to do, too."

Tropical Rainforest Dresser

Stenciling We Love: Day 19

Tammi Latham, of Matilda Jane Originals, stenciled this tropical dresser and a matching mirror.

Tammi doesn't remember which stencils she used for the animal print drawers. She says "I believe I got them at Michael's and they were blue...like THAT helps!" But don't worry, you can find plenty of animal print stencils in our stencil search engine.

Silver Leaf Stenciled Ceiling

Stenciling We Love: Day 18

Debra Campbell, the owner of Wallartistry, stenciled this custom ceiling design over a metallic acrylic plaster background. After allowing the plaster to dry, Debra applied the stencil and rolled a coat of water-based gilding size and let it tack up. She then used aluminum leafing sheets and rubbed the leaf with a t-shirt towel. To give the leaf a bit of a patina and to prevent tarnishing, Debra waxed it with walnut Liberon wax. Lastly, she went back into the design with some additional wax on a brush to accent some areas, pulled the stencil, and voila!

Debra Campbell has been creating decorative finishes for over 15 years and started Wallartistry in 2000. She recently opened a school teaching Safra plasters and will be expanding class offerings in the coming months.

Tuscany Mural

Stenciling We Love: Day 17

This mural, by Maria Paray, was painted for a small, windowless powder room. The wall directly opposite the mural is mirrored, reflecting the mural and giving an expansive feel to the room.

Maria painted the mural on cambric canvas and affixed it to the wall with a Procote Handwaxer. She used the Shuttered Window and Grape Ivy Vine stencils from Royal Design Studios in the mural. The scenic view was painted freehand and adapted from a reference in Trompe L'oeil Interiors by Christopher Westall. Cast shadows were painted around the ivy to add depth and realism. Once the window mural was affixed to the wall, a shadow for the shutters and sill was painted directly on the plastered wall for a trompe l'oeil effect.

Maria, a former professional as decorative painter, is currently a jewelry designer in the pre-launch phase of a new company. Maria states, "My painting career informs my work in jewelry through the extensive use of color and texture".
