Stenciled Ceilings

This is a ceiling I stenciled when my brother and sister-in-law were awaiting the arrival of the son they were adopting from Guatemala. The inspiration came from a page I saw in an old Pottery Barn Kids catalog.

The letters are just randomly placed about on the ceiling and my nephew's name, Gabriel, is spelled out over one window. For a one time use stencil, I printed the letters from my computer onto regular computer paper and cut out. As Gabriel has grown, my sister-in-law reports that he loves lying in bed looking up at all the letters he can now recognize!

Stenciling We Love: Day 18

Debra Campbell, the owner of Wallartistry, stenciled this custom ceiling design over a metallic acrylic plaster background. After allowing the plaster to dry, Debra applied the stencil and rolled a coat of water-based gilding size and let it tack up. She then used aluminum leafing sheets and rubbed the leaf with a t-shirt towel. To give the leaf a bit of a patina and to prevent tarnishing, Debra waxed it with walnut Liberon wax. Lastly, she went back into the design with some additional wax on a brush to accent some areas, pulled the stencil, and voila!

Stenciling We Love: Day 6

Artist Viktoria Stockmal stenciled this lovely ceiling in a Victorian style home in Connecticut.

After stenciling the designs in green and red, Viktoria went over them with raw umber to "age" the colors.

The stencil shown on the wall is the Rococco design from Epoch Designs (now a part of MB Historic Decor). Viktoria found the other two stencils at a Michaels store.

This closeup gives you a clearer view of the details. I love this combination of colors and patterns!

Today, we are thrilled to present these gorgeous stenciled ceilings done by Patty Henning of Fabulous Finishes. Patty used Swarovski Crystals to embellish this Modello™ over a plaster finish.

Northwest Nature Shop offers both a Summer and Winter Night Sky stencil in 2 sizes, 8 feet and 12 feet. These astronomically accurate stencil kits are made for ceilings and come complete with brush and a "special formulated luminous paint which absorbs ambient light, and is practically invisible on white or off-white surfaces". Their website claims the stenciled stars can be applied in 1-2 hours by a child as young as 12 years of age. At $21.95 and $26.95, these kits are very reasonably priced! What a fun activity to do with your children!
