Stenciling We Love: Day 17
This mural, by Maria Paray, was painted for a small, windowless powder room. The wall directly opposite the mural is mirrored, reflecting the mural and giving an expansive feel to the room.
Maria painted the mural on cambric canvas and affixed it to the wall with a Procote Handwaxer. She used the Shuttered Window and Grape Ivy Vine stencils from Royal Design Studios in the mural. The scenic view was painted freehand and adapted from a reference in Trompe L’oeil Interiors by Christopher Westall. Cast shadows were painted around the ivy to add depth and realism. Once the window mural was affixed to the wall, a shadow for the shutters and sill was painted directly on the plastered wall for a trompe l’oeil effect.
Maria, a former professional as decorative painter, is currently a jewelry designer in the pre-launch phase of a new company. Maria states, “My painting career informs my work in jewelry through the extensive use of color and texture”.
