There are so many ways to use stencils, and some of them have nothing to do with paint. LuAnn Kessi’s beautiful fall leaves shown here were stenciled on fabric with fabric inks and shaving cream, which is a stenciling technique I’d definitely not seen before!

But while I may not have seen the shaving cream stenciling technique before, it seems that plenty of other artists and crafters have, and I was able to find a few examples to share with you.
Video Tutorial: Fun with Shaving Cream & Ink
Here’s a video tutorial on the technique, entitled Fun with Shaving Cream & Ink, by Trish Stuart of Trish Stuart Designs.
Trish uses Tsukineko Inks with the shaving cream and fabric stabilizer for the stencil. You could also use freezer paper as a less expensive alternative for your stencil material.
Make It and Love It: How to Marble Fabric (with shaving cream!!)
Cami from “Tidbits” transformed a plain white t-shirt with freezer paper and shaving cream in this tutorial on Make It and Love It.

I took a plain white T-shirt, made a simple heart stencil out of some freezer paper, and marbled inside. It turned out better than I had hoped for!

I hope these tutorials will help you get you started on your own project, and if you do create something with shaving cream, please share pictures!
