Mirror Makeover

I have been doing a little experimenting with techniques on glass and mirrors and thought I might as well start with mirrors and glass in my own home.

mirror 1
This is a mirror I've had for several years. I found it in a yard sale. The glass is not in the best shape and the frame is missing some of its trim here and there.

I covered the entire mirror with clear Contact paper.

Next, I taped down this Italian Medallion border stencil (Royal Design Studio) I had in my studio and traced the design onto the Contact paper.

The design was then cut out with an Xacto knife.

Now this step, I'm not so sure is necessary, but since I had the product on hand, I included it. I brushed on PrimeEtch to ensure that the next steps would adhere to the glass.

I then applied some sizing and began to add these Tamise Flakes. This is the Variegated Fall Mix, which contains gold, copper, bronze, silver, and red flakes. I've had this jar forever. A little goes a long way!

This washed out frame was just not doing the design justice.

So I got out some Stain and Seal™ and darkened the frame.

Now this mirror really has a presence on my wall!
