Faux Finishing Techniques: Strié & Linen

by Pat & Jackie Baxter

  1. Apply desired base coat over properly prepared walls.

  2. Apply glaze with a 3/8" nap roller. Roll 2 or 3 widths of your paint roller floor to ceiling. (Do not use a foam roller for this step).

  3. Remove glaze by dragging a Pal-Mar® brush, flogger, or wallpaper brush vertically through the glaze. Take care not to remove glaze all the way to the edge. When you roll the next strip, you will roll back into that area.

  4. If a linen look is desired, wait until the glaze is approximately half dry, drag horizontally across the wall. This allows the vertical dragging to remain intact, while allowing your to work the top layer.

Note: Metallics and White are not recommended for these techniques because they dry too quickly.
This is the fourth installment in a series of techniques provided by Lasting Impressions owners Pat and Jackie Baxter. For best results, we recommend using a glaze with an excellent open time, such as Elegant Transformations.
