Designer Profile: Victoria Larsen
Victoria Larsen Victoria Larsen Home Decor Stencils Everett, Washington Stencil designer Victoria Larsen was raised amongst paint tubes, brushes and canvases. "My Mother is a very talented artist.", she says. "As my interest in art began to bud, she encouraged me to read her collection of historical books of the master artists." Mirror Makeover
I have been doing a little experimenting with techniques on glass and mirrors and thought I might as well start with mirrors and glass in my own home. This is a mirror I've had for several years. I found it in a yard sale. The glass is not in the best shape and the frame is missing some of its trim here and there. I covered the entire mirror with clear Contact paper. Next, I taped down this Italian Medallion border stencil (Royal Design Studio) I had in my studio and traced the design onto the Contact paper. The design was then cut out with an ...
Paris Chic Dining Room Walls
Chris Smith recently followed one of Melanie Royal's free recipes that can be found on the Royal Design Studio website. This was taken directly from Melanie's Paris Chic. To begin, walls were base painted with Benjamin Moore's Linen White. Stripes were taped off at 12 inches apart and the entire wall was glazed with Benjamin Moore's HC-41 Richmond Gold. Next, every other stripe was glazed with Benjamin Moore's AC-8 Butte Rock. View these colors online in Benjamin Moore's Virtual Fan Deck. The stencil is added at the top. Chris used two different colors on the stencil and recommends trying a sample first so you ...
Stenciled Halloween Treats
This photo from a recent Designer Stencils newsletter provides a sneak peak of some of their new culinary stencils, including Monster Faces, Scary Halloween, Witch's Hat and Tombstone cookie cutter stencil sets. Not pictured, but also available, are Skulls. From Martha Stewart's Halloween Central, these cakes and brownies are stenciled with powdered-sugar silhouettes of witches, jack o' lanterns, cats, and spiders. I found this stenciled Along Came a Spider Cake on Country Living. They also have a similarly stenciled Scary Cat cake. Silver Leaf Stenciled Ceiling
Stenciling We Love: Day 18 Debra Campbell, the owner of Wallartistry, stenciled this custom ceiling design over a metallic acrylic plaster background. After allowing the plaster to dry, Debra applied the stencil and rolled a coat of water-based gilding size and let it tack up. She then used aluminum leafing sheets and rubbed the leaf with a t-shirt towel. To give the leaf a bit of a patina and to prevent tarnishing, Debra waxed it with walnut Liberon wax. Lastly, she went back into the design with some additional wax on a brush to accent some areas, pulled the stencil, ...

One of the best things about stenciling is it's versatility. You can use stencils to paint just about anything, including walls, furniture, or fabric, in styles ranging from traditional theorems to street graffiti. And sometimes you can even stencil without paint. The Frankenstein tshirt pictured was stenciled with bleach using a design from Stencil1.... [Read more...]

Recycling My Blouse
I bought this blouse two years ago and have probably only worn it twice. Feeling the need for something new, but also feeling the pinch of our economic times, I decided to give this blouse a new lease on life. I bought a package of Rit dye in Cocoa Brown. Gee, I can't even remember the last time I bought Rit dye! Following the instructions on the... [Read more...]
